Install Harko for desktop

Harko for desktop runs on Mac (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux. Download, install, sign in.

Applies to: Desktop

What you need

  • Mac: macOS 12 Monterey or later. There are separate downloads for Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
  • Windows: Windows 10 or later, 64-bit.
  • Linux: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12 or later, 64-bit — as an AppImage or a .deb package.

Mac

  1. Open Download Harko on your Mac and choose Download for Mac (or the Intel download).
  2. Open the downloaded file and drag Harko to Applications, then open it from Applications.

Windows

  1. Download the Windows installer from Download Harko and open it. It installs for your user, in one step.
  2. If Windows SmartScreen says the app is unrecognized, choose More info, then Run anyway.

Linux

  • .deb (Debian, Ubuntu): install it with your package manager, for example sudo apt install ./ followed by the file name. It is then updated with your other packages.
  • AppImage: make the file executable and run it. On Ubuntu 24.04 and later, it may need to be started with --no-sandbox.

The first time you open it

  1. Sign in with your Harko account — Harko opens your browser for this (see Create an account and sign in).
  2. Harko asks whether it should start when you log in. With Start with my computer, approvals reach you and your box can use this computer while you work.
  3. In Devices › This computer, choose the folders Harko may use (see Choose the folders Harko may use).

Updates

Harko checks for updates when it starts and every few hours, downloads them in the background and installs them when you quit. It never forces a restart.
